Supreme Court
The Supreme Court, while hearing a petition filed against the bulldozer action, said that if there is contempt of the court order, the concerned officer will be sent to jail. During the hearing it was also said that if the bulldozer action is found wrong then the government will have to get it done again. The matter is related to Somnath temple of Gujarat. Recently, bulldozer action was taken on alleged illegal construction around the temple here.
A contempt petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the demolition of the alleged illegal construction. This petition has been filed by Patni Muslim Jamaat. During the hearing on this petition, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Gujarat government and sought its reply. The next hearing on this matter will be on October 16.
What did the court say?
During the hearing on the petition, the Supreme Court said that if our order has been disregarded, we will order its reinstatement and will also send the responsible officer to jail. The Solicitor General said that this is government land. Work on this was going on since 2023.
What was the court order?
Regarding the bulldozer action, the Supreme Court has made it clear that it is not appropriate to demolish someone’s house just because he is an accused. The court had also said that even if found guilty, the house cannot be demolished. However, most of the house demolition actions are carried out by the Municipal Corporation. The Municipal Corporation, within its limits, demolishes the houses of only those accused who have not followed the rules while building the houses. In such a situation, the Solicitor General had earlier also said in defense of the government that the governments are taking action only as per the rules.
