There was an exchange of fire between security forces and militants in a village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Tuesday evening, security officials said. They said the firing took place around 7:30 pm when police and Rashtriya Rifles personnel moved towards Karyote village in the lower Thanamandi district after receiving information about suspicious movement. Officials said the militants fired a few rounds on seeing the security forces and then managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness during the retaliatory action. Officials said no one was injured in the firing.
He said that additional forces have been sent to the area and a massive search operation is being carried out to trace the terrorists. Meanwhile, the police also launched an intensive search operation in Bani area of Kathua district after receiving information about suspicious activity. Officials said that the operation ended peacefully and no clue was found about the suspects.
