People from Buxar in Chhattisgarh are protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Many people involved in the protest do not have hands, legs or eyes. The reason is the accident in which these people have lost their bodies. These people are pleading with the government to fulfill their demands. Also, they are asking the government what is their fault? People involved in the protest were carrying placards with slogans like Down with Maoism and End Naxalism. Let us know the real demands and identity of these people…
Who are the people in the protesting crowd?
Most of the people in this crowd live in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh and are victims of Naxal violence in some way or the other. These people are suffering at all levels – physical, mental and financial. They have come to Delhi from Chhattisgarh and are pleading for justice and peace from the government. For this reason, they are protesting peacefully by sitting. These people are protesting under the Bastar Peace Committee.
The area facing violence is on the verge of destruction
Coordinator of Bastar Shanti Samiti, Manguram Kavade said that we have been suffering from Naxal violence for decades. Our villages have been destroyed and our area has remained untouched by development. We demand that our voice be heard and we be freed from violence.
Here the disability is not inborn but is a gift of Naxalites
Guddu Ram Lekam, who participated in the movement, is handicapped. He is just 18 years old. His disability is not congenital. While playing with his friends, one day Lekam suddenly lost his leg. He told that he stepped on a landmine planted by Naxalites. He lost his leg due to the bomb blast. Every victim present in the movement has his own painful story, which is linked to Naxalite violence.
I am a silent Bastar, but today I am speaking up
Lekam says that I do not want anyone else to go through this pain. That is why it is necessary to wipe out the Naxalites from the area. That is why we protesters are appealing to the government in one voice to free the area from Naxalites. The protesters have placards and banners in their hands. It is written on them that I am Khamosh Bastar, but today I am speaking.
