Launch of the sixth edition of “Abhivyakti – The City Arts Project”
AHMEDABAD: “Abhivyakti – The City Arts Project”, a UNM Foundation initiative supported by the Mehta family of Torrent Group, is back in Ahmedabad with its sixth edition. The aim of this art festival is to encourage diverse forms of Indian art and to provide an opportunity to artists to showcase their ideas and creations on a big platform. This edition will feature over 140 performances across various art forms such as dance, music, theatre, and visual arts by creators from across the country.
This 15-day program started on 21 November 2024 and will continue till 8 December 2024. A total of 96 artists (including 47 visual artists) will present their art forms at the Gujarat University and Atira campus in Ahmedabad, an ideal location surrounded by natural beauty. All performances will be free, so that the general public can also enjoy these art forms.
Objectives and Social Initiatives
The UNM Foundation not only aims to make art an integral part of public life, but also provides a platform for artists to showcase their art. Through this, the Foundation is working towards making art accessible without any cost, so that people of every section can experience art. Apart from this, UNM Foundation is also active in other sectors of the society, such as working in the fields of anemia eradication, maternal health, cardiology, paediatrics and primary education. This effort of the Foundation is also making important contribution in the field of human service and knowledge service.

The platform of “Expression” has now gained an important place among the major art events of India. This year’s edition saw 1,236 artists from across the country apply to present their art, which is a clear testament to the growing popularity of this initiative. So far, more than 3 lakh people have benefited from these amazing art exhibits through this project.
How are artists selected?
Artists are selected through a transparent and detailed process. First of all, original works are solicited from artists through public invitation. Then there is the final selection based on screening by the curators and inputs from the mentors. Selected artists are given the opportunity to perform on different days over the course of 15 days, giving them a wide platform for their art.

The purpose of “Abhyakti” is to give a new direction and identity to art in the society. This initiative of the Foundation provides the audience with an experience of art beyond social, physical and personal boundaries. It is an important platform to promote creativity and experimentation in all forms of art, identifying and supporting emerging talents. In the last six years, Abhivyakti has created its own identity and has become a prestigious platform for art lovers.
