The water level of the Gandak river in Chhapra of Saran district of Bihar has definitely decreased but now people are in panic due to the continuous erosion. People are scared due to the erosion of the Gandak river in Hazalpur and Laguniyan villages of Bagha Kol Panchayat of Maker block. Sudha Shankar Singh of the village says that erosion in the Gandak river has been happening for the last eight days. Earlier the speed of erosion was less but for the last two days the speed of erosion has increased.
Fantiga Ram, Rita Devi, Kishori Rai said that the stream of Gandak river was one kilometer away from the village. Due to erosion, the stream of Gandak river is now flowing at a distance of just fifty feet from the village. As the water level is decreasing, the erosion is increasing. Due to this, people are spending time awake at night. This erosion is happening near Hazalpur and Laguniyan villages.
It is known that half a dozen villages including Hazalpur, Laguniyan, Naukada of Bagha Kol Panchayat are situated between the Gandak river and Saran main dam. It has a population of eight to ten thousand. Whenever the water level in the river increases, these villages get hit by floods. Till now, about fifty bighas of land including eight bighas of land of Kishori Rai of Hazalpur village and six bighas of land of Chhathu Rai have been engulfed by the Gandak river.
Erosion is still fast. If the situation remains the same, dozens of houses will be washed away in the Gandak river in two to three days. PACS President Shashi Singh and social worker Ajay Rai said that erosion was happening last year as well but at a slow pace but this time the erosion is fast. Mukhiya Anil Singh informed the SDO of the Gandak department about the erosion taking place in the Gandak river.

The SDO inspected the spot. When asked about this, SDO of Gandak department Vijay Kumar said that erosion is happening rapidly in the Gandak river. Information about this has been given to senior officials. Further action will be taken as per the orders.
