Ahmedabad: The prevalence of mobile phones among children has been increasing for some time across the country. Due to this, children’s ability to study and interest in sports is also decreasing. For the first time across the country, the Gujarat government is going to issue guidelines to reduce the negative impact of increasing use of social media and smartphones among school students. The Gujarat government on Thursday said it will introduce guidelines to limit the use of mobile phones and social media for children. It emphasized that spending too much time on ‘screens’ is not good for children.
The order will be strictly followed
Minister of State for Education Praful Panseria told reporters that its aim is to keep children away from mobile phones and bring them to playgrounds and increase inclination towards studies. He said that guidelines will be issued after consultation with experts. The minister said, “We had earlier issued an order to ban mobile phones for children in primary schools. From now onwards this order will be strictly followed.
Gujarat will be the first state of the country
The minister said teachers, students and parents will be made aware of the guidelines and the state will promote this initiative as a campaign. He further said that school teachers will be given information about keeping children busy in activities like reading and playing instead of using social media and smart phones. Along with this, the Minister requested the parents of the children not to use social media in front of their children, the parents themselves are worried about the future of their children and should keep their children away from social media. The minister expressed hope that Gujarat would be the first state to issue the circular and other states would take inspiration from Gujarat.
