Police have arrested 27 people in connection with stone pelting at Ganesh Pandal in Surat. Suddenly some people started pelting stones at the Ganesh Pandal built in Variyavali Lal Gate area of Saidpura police station area. After this incident, there was a huge uproar and people sat on the road and started shouting Jai Shri Ram slogans. Initially, the police arrested five people in this case, including a Muslim.
According to the report of Desh Gujarat, people told that three Muslim youths came in an auto rickshaw and started throwing stones at the Ganesh pandal. After this, the local people caught two of them and handed them over to the police. The situation worsened when thousands of people surrounded the police station and raised slogans of Yogi-Yogi. Some Hindu youths also started raising slogans of Jai Shri Ram while sitting on the road. It is being told that during this time many vehicles were damaged. The police had to fire tear gas shells and lathicharge was also done to control the angry mob.
Stone pelting happened not once but twice
According to the information, stone pelting happened not once but twice at the Ganesh pandal. City Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot informed that stones were pelted at the Ganesh Utsav venue after which the police caught the accused which included minors as well. Later, stone pelting also took place between groups of two communities. This entire incident has been captured in the CCTV camera installed there. All of them will be identified and action will be taken.
Police and MLA kept explaining, people kept shouting slogans of Yogi-Yogi
After the people of the Hindu community surrounded the police station, the Police Commissioner, Mayor and the local MLA also reached there to calm the people. MLA Kanti Balar was addressing the Hindus to calm them down, while the angry crowd kept shouting slogans of Yogi-Yogi.
