Preparations for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir have intensified. There are not many days left for the elections to begin, yet many cases of violation of the code of conduct are coming to light. In the latest case, a government employee and a village level officer have been suspended for violating the model code of conduct in Kishtwar district. So far, a total of FIRs have been registered and 175 cases have been reported in violation of the election code of conduct.
The Model Code of Conduct for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections came into force on August 16. Meanwhile, on Sunday, the election officer said that Kishtwar District Election Officer Rajesh Kumar Shawan has ordered action against Adil Irshad, ‘Groundsman’ of the Regional Education Scheme Office located in Paddar and Vikram Singh, ‘Lambardar’ of Panjdhara-Loharna. He said that both of them were found involved in activities violating the guidelines of the Model Code of Conduct on Saturday.
According to the official, an inquiry has been initiated against the accused and the investigating officers have been asked to submit their report to the District Election Officer’s office within the next seven days. According to the official, the Tehsildar has been directed to ensure that the suspended Lambardar does not go to the concerned area till the completion of the polling process, while Irshad will remain attached to the office of Zonal Education Office, Drabshala during the suspension period.
A total of 9 FIRs and 175 cases have been registered so far
Let us tell you that nine FIRs have been registered and five government employees have been suspended for violating the Model Code of Conduct in Jammu and Kashmir. The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has given this information in a statement.
The statement said 23 warnings were issued and investigations were underway in 48 cases of election code of conduct violations. The statement said 175 cases of election code of conduct violations were reported across Jammu and Kashmir, including 96 against political parties and candidates and 53 against government employees. However, 89 complaints were rejected as these were found to be “baseless and false”.
It is worth noting that elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir in three phases between September 18 and October 1. Voting will be held for 24 seats in the first phase on September 18, for 26 seats in the second phase on September 25 and for 40 seats in the third phase on October 1. The results will be declared on October 8.
