Uttarakhand panchayat chunaav 2025: The High Court has given a major setback on the three -tier panchayat elections to be held in Uttarakhand. Now these elections have been postponed for the moment as the court has stayed the reservation process. A division bench of Chief Justice G Narendra and Justice Alok Mehra heard the matter on Monday and found that the method of reservation rotation was not according to the rules. The court has also sought an answer from the state government on this entire matter.
What was written in the petition?
This decision regarding the panchayat elections was given by the High Court after hearing the petitions filed by Ganesh Dutt Kandpal and others resident of Bageshwar. The petitioners said that the state government issued an order on June 9, 2025, making a new manual for the panchayat elections, then on 11 June, an order was issued to abolish the already implemented reservation rotation and implemented the new rotation process. While the High Court had already given directions in this case, which were not followed.
According to the petitioner, due to this new order, the seat which was in the reserved category in the last three terms has been reserved for the fourth time. Because of this, they are not able to participate in panchayat elections.
What did the state government say?
In this case, the state government told the court that some such cases have also been filed in a single bench. On this, the petitioner’s advocate said that he has also challenged the new rules in the bench on June 9.
Panchayat elections were to be held in 12 districts
Let us tell you that three districts except Haridwar district of Uttarakhand were to be held in three districts, on which the court has now banned the entire election process by making strict comments.
