Road repair work in Ahmedabad
Gujarat, which was devastated by floods due to heavy rains, is slowly getting back on track. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has started repairing dilapidated roads in Saraspur area. After heavy rains, there were many potholes on the roads, the work of filling them has started. After the rains stopped, the flood water has also gone and the people who were taken from their homes to safer places are slowly returning to their homes. Meanwhile, the Home Ministry has formed a central team, which will assess the damage caused by the floods in Gujarat.
According to the official statement, the inter-ministerial team will soon visit the flood-affected districts of Gujarat. Heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred here between August 25 and 30. At least 25 people died in rain-related incidents across the state on August 26 and 27. The statement said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has constituted an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) led by the Executive Director of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) to assess the damage caused by rainfall and floods in Gujarat.
The committee can also go to other states
Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have also been affected by heavy to very heavy rains. Himachal Pradesh has suffered a lot of damage this year due to heavy rains, cloudbursts and landslides. The statement said that the Home Ministry is in touch with senior officials of these states and if they report extensive damage, IMCT will be sent there too. Some other states have also been affected by heavy rains, floods, cloudbursts and landslides during this monsoon. The statement said that the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is fully committed to provide all possible assistance to the affected states.
The committee inspected without a memorandum
The statement said that as per the decision taken by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in August 2019, the Home Ministry constituted IMCT this year, which visited the flood and landslide affected states of Assam, Kerala, Mizoram and Tripura and assessed the damage on the spot without waiting for their memorandum. IMCT has also been constituted for Nagaland, which will soon visit the affected areas of the state. The statement said that in the past, IMCT used to visit disaster affected states only after receiving a memorandum from the state government. (Input- ANI/PTI)
