Authorities here have recommended registration of a case against a National Conference (NC) leader for allegedly making a hate speech at an election rally of Omar Abdullah in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal area on Saturday. Nodal officer (model code of conduct) Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani has recommended registration of an FIR against former sarpanch Mohammad Ashraf Ganai for using the word ‘murder’ during an election speech at Kachan in Ganderbal.
In a letter to the concerned official, the official said, “Considering the seriousness of the situation, it is recommended that strict action be taken against the said person. An FIR should be lodged against the accused under applicable laws for promoting hatred through his speech and violating the model code of conduct.”
During an election rally in the presence of Abdullah, Ganai said that “we can kill anyone” for insulting the party flag. A video of the incident shows Abdullah immediately stopping Ganai and preventing him from addressing the rally. This video became the basis of the complaint. Many in the audience expressed anger over Ganai’s statement.
