Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat at a program of Jain community in Surat.
Surat: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Thursday that we do not attack anyone first, and if someone attacks us then we do not tolerate it either. The RSS Chief said that because of the principles laid down by our ancestors, India helps even those countries which once waged war against it. He said that India had the option to respond to Pakistan’s nefarious activities in Kargil in 1999 but the then government had instructed the army not to cross the border to attack.
Bhagwat was speaking in a program organized by Jain community.
Addressing an event organized by the Jain community on Thursday, Bhagwat said that because of its commitment to uphold the principles established by its ancestors, India extends its support even to those countries which had earlier waged war against us. He said, ‘We do not initiate attacks first nor do we tolerate any attack on us. Today many people are worried about the future due to the current situation. But there is no need to be afraid. We will resolve all these issues. Jain religious leader Acharya Mahashraman was also present in this program.
‘We had the option to take action against Pakistan’
Bhagwat said, ‘When Pakistan attacked us during the Kargil war, India had the option to retaliate against our neighbor if we wanted. But our army was given clear instructions not to cross the border. The army was asked to target only those who were within our range. Referring to ‘surgical strikes’ and air strikes inside Pakistan by India, Bhagwat said India had ensured that only unruly elements were targeted.
Surgical and air strikes were also mentioned
RSS Chief said, ‘When we attacked his house, we did not target the whole of Pakistan. We only attacked those people who were creating problems for us. In September 2016, India conducted a ‘surgical strike’ on terrorist hideouts across the Line of Control in Pakistan occupied Kashmir i.e. POK. In February 2019, the Indian Air Force carried out air strikes in Balakot, Pakistan in response to the Pulwama terror attack. (Language)
