Welfare Board's bet for the second time in two weeks, why Shinde government is kind to Jain community before elections

According to the 2011 census, Jain community constitutes 1.25% of the total population of Maharashtra. This is the highest in the country. There is a population of 14 lakh Jains in the state. Only four percent of the total population of Mumbai comes from Jain community.

Maharashtra’s Eknath Shinde government on Friday, in its second cabinet meeting held within a week, approved the proposal to create an Economic Welfare Board for the state’s Jain community. Apart from this, it has also been decided to set up Financial Development Corporation for communities like Bari, Teli, Hindu Khatik, Lonari included in Other Backward Classes (OBC), while a grant of up to Rs 10 lakh will be given to cultural and educational institutions belonging to the Buddhist community. Have decided to give. For the second time within two weeks, the Shinde government has staked claim to the Welfare Board. Earlier on September 23, the Shinde cabinet had approved the Kshatriya and Brahmin Welfare Board.

According to the 2011 census, Jain community constitutes 1.25% of the total population of Maharashtra. This is the highest in the country. There is a population of 14 lakh Jains in the state. After this comes Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka. Only four percent of the total population of the country’s economic city Mumbai comes from the Jain community. From this it can be guessed why the Shinde government is trying to please this community just before the assembly elections.

In the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, it was decided to waive non-agricultural tax on residential buildings, commercial and industrial use buildings etc. outside Gavthans. Gaavthan means the area in the middle of the village. The village people have houses, shops, temples, schools etc. in this area.

According to the proposal passed in the cabinet, the jail term can be extended up to two years and the fine will be Rs 1 lakh. Currently, the jail term is up to three months, while the fine amount is Rs 5,000. The fine amount had not been revised since 1960.

Other decisions of the Shinde government include renaming of 104 ITIs, increase in prize money for sportspersons, allotment of one company each of the State Disaster Response Force to Konkan and Pune divisions, which will be deployed in Navi Mumbai and Daund respectively. Officials said each company will have four teams, and 428 posts have been approved, which is estimated to cost Rs 37 crore.
