Padmashree Award to Chandrakant Sompura
Chandrakant Sompura, the architect of Ram temple in Ayodhya, said on Sunday that the Center’s decision to honor him with the Padma Shri is to recognize his work. Sompura, associated with the tradition of temple architects, is one of the eight personalities of Gujarat whose names were announced on Saturday for Padma Samman.

81 -year -old Sompura, who lives in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, said, “It is recognized with my work and dedication with which my family has been contributing to the temple design for generations. Padma Shri is very special for me. Our family has been dedicated to temple architecture for many generations.
Designs of these temples are also ready
Sompura said that he has designed many famous temples in India and abroad. These include various Shaktipeeths like Akshardham Temple in Gandhinagar, Ambaji in Gujarat, Swaminarayan Temple in London and many temples in Singapore and America.
Connected with Ram temple project since 1980
Sompura said that he has been associated with the Ram temple project since 1980. He said, “We had designed the temple earlier earlier and when its size increased, we designed it again.” Sompura said that he is also involved in the design of seven other small temples like Shabri and Nishadraj in Ayodhya. He said that work is going on on these.
So far, 131 temple projects have been completed
In a note on its website, Sompura has said that the plan and design of Ram temple in Ayodhya is a distinct achievement of their lives. According to Sompura’s website, he has so far completed 131 temple projects or has worked on them.
Dada Prabhashankar Sompura has also got Padma Shri
In the year 1973, Chandrakant Sompura’s grandfather Prabhashankar Sompura was awarded the Padma Shri. Prabhashankar was a well-known artist of the Nagar style architecture and Vallabhbhai Patel gave him the task of planning and construction of the famous Somnath temple just after independence.
