Where will PM Modi take Justice Chandrachud after his retirement, taunts Uddhav Sena

Shiv Sena (UBT) has again opposed the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud. The party has even raised questions about what post will the PM give to Justice Chandrachud after his retirement in November. PM Modi also attended the Ganesh Puja organized at the CJI’s residence on Wednesday. Shiv Sena (UBT) has already objected to this meeting.

In an editorial in the party mouthpiece ‘Saamana’, the party led by former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that Modi has demolished even the last pillar of Indian polity. This is the downfall of the country’s prestige. According to the Supreme Court website, Chief Justice Chandrachud will retire on November 10, 2024.

On Modi’s visit to Chandrachud’s residence on Wednesday, the editorial said, “The private meeting between the Prime Minister and the Chief Justice has raised questions about protocol.” A controversy has arisen over Modi’s visit.

The editorial said that post-retirement ‘facilities’ are the biggest alarm bell in the judiciary! Taking a dig at Chandrachud, Shiv Sena (UBT) said that it would be interesting to see where the Prime Minister takes him after retirement. The Saamana editorial claimed that the judges who helped the government in ‘crushing’ democracy and the Constitution have been rewarded after their retirement.

It said that people had different opinions about Chief Justice Chandrachud and still have different opinions. Firstly, the Chandrachud family has a great tradition of dispensation of justice. Yashwant Vishnu Chandrachud was the Chief Justice of the country during Indiraji’s (former Prime Minister) time and he is the father of the current Chief Justice. The editorial said that Chandrachud is a son of Maharashtra, so it was certain that he would not succumb to any pressure or political temptation.

The editorial on EVMs says that there were huge protests against EVMs in the country and Delhi. Despite all the evidence that EVMs are the killers of democracy, all the petitions opposing EVMs were dismissed. This is exactly what the government wanted. The editorial says that the Supreme Court was also weak in curbing the arbitrary behavior of ED and CBI.

Sanjay Raut advised to withdraw from the case

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has raised questions on PM Modi’s visit to CJI’s house. According to news agency ANI, he said, “Look, this is Ganpati ji’s festival. How many people’s houses has the Prime Minister visited so far? I don’t know. Ganesh festival is celebrated at many places in Delhi, but the Prime Minister went to the Chief Justice’s house and the Prime Minister and the Chief Justice performed aarti together.”

Raut said, ‘I feel that there is a tradition that in such cases, if there is any connection between the judge and the party, then he recuses himself from the case. Now I feel that Chandrachud sahab should recuse himself from this.’ Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sunil Prabhu has challenged the decision of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar.
