Journalist Mahesh Langga
Ahmedabad: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday arrested a Gujarat journalist in connection with the investigation of the alleged financial fraud -related money laundering case. Mahesh Langa, a correspondent of ‘The Hindu’ newspaper in Gujarat, was detained and produced before the PMLA court in Ahmedabad. Officials said that the court sent Mahesh Prabhudan Langa to the custody of ED till 28 February. Please tell that this is the fourth case against Langa. Earlier, he was arrested for the Goods and Services Tax (GST) fraud.
Know the whole matter
This case of money laundering against Langa has arisen from two FIRs filed by Ahmedabad Police, including fraud, criminal embezzlement, criminal betrayal, fraud and allegations of incorrect losses of millions of rupees to some people. Langa’s counsel had earlier denied the allegations against him. According to the ED, the reporter was found involved in several “fraud” financial transactions associated with large amounts. It alleged that his financial transactions included “forcible recovery” from various individuals, continuous manipulation and “using media effects”.
There was also arrest in GST case
The Central Investigation Agency claimed that Langa was involved in the GST input tax credit “scam”, which the ED is also investigating. Langa was arrested by Ahmedabad Crime Branch on 8 October 2024.
Who is Mahesh Langa?
The Hindu’s Gujarat correspondent Mahesh is accused of misusing his post and did blackmail, settlement and illegal business and allegedly earned millions through these activities. His name has also come up in the case of leaking government documents, whose FIR has been recorded in Gandhinagar.
Last year, Rs 20 lakh cash, expensive jewelry and property documents were recovered by Ahmedabad Crime Branch in Mahesh’s house. Mahesh Langa’s annual salary was Rs 9 lakh. In his last 2022-23 income tax return, his own income was Rs 9.48 lakh and his wife’s income is Rs 6.04 lakh, that is, his 1 year income is around Rs 15.5 lakh and got Rs 20 lakh cash from his house. In addition, it is also revealed that Mahesh and his wife often stayed in luxury hotels.
