Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee’s actions created a stir in the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) meeting held to discuss the Waqf Amendment Bill. During this time, in anger, he slammed a glass bottle hard on the table, due to which glass fragments entered his fingers and he got injured. After his aggressive behavior he has been suspended for a day. After the incident, a demand was made against JPC President Jagdambika Pal for her suspension for using unparliamentary language and breaking a glass bottle, which was approved by the committee by majority.
Banerjee, member of the JPC on Waqf Bill, was adjourned for one day and two sittings under Lok Sabha rules 261 and 374 (1) (2) for using unparliamentary language against committee chairperson Jagdambika Pal and breaking a glass bottle and throwing it at her. In 2009, he came into limelight by criticizing Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya and since then his controversial statements continued. Recently, he had attacked BJP’s claim of 400 seats by saying ‘kit-kit’ in the Lok Sabha, the video related to which had gone viral.
