Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM has also entered the fray in the by-elections being held on four assembly seats of Bihar. AIMIM has announced candidates in Belaganj and Imamganj of Gaya district. The party has given ticket to Mohammad Jamin Ali from Belaganj, while Kanchan Paswan has been made the candidate from Imamganj. Party state president Akhtarul Iman announced this on Tuesday. AIMIM may also announce its candidates in Tarari of Bhojpur district and Ramgarh of Kaimur district soon.
Belaganj assembly seat is considered the stronghold of RJD. Surendra Yadav from Jehanabad was MLA from here for 6 consecutive terms. RJD has given ticket to his son Vishwanath Singh in the by-election. Janata Dal United (JDU) has fielded former MLC Manorama Devi from NDA against him. At the same time, Prashant Kishore’s Jan Suraj Party, which is contesting for the first time, has given ticket to Professor Khilafat Hussain from Belaganj. Now Owaisi’s party has also entered the field. Due to this, the election season of Belaganj has become interesting.
Will there be a dent in RJD’s MY equation?
There is a good number of Yadav and Muslim voters in Belaganj assembly seat. RJD’s MY (Muslim-Yadav) equation has proved successful in the last few elections here. However, in this by-election, Tejashwi Yadav’s party is facing challenge not only from NDA but also from regional parties. JDU has tried to break into the Yadav vote bank by giving ticket to Manorama Devi. At the same time, the parties of Prashant Kishore and Asaduddin Owaisi have made the contest interesting by introducing Muslim faces. If we look at the last few elections and by-elections, Owaisi’s party has given competition to the candidates of Grand Alliance and NDA in Muslim dominated areas.
On the other hand, AIMIM has given ticket to Kanchan Paswan from Imamganj, a Scheduled Caste reserved seat in Gaya district. From here we have fielded Deepa Manjhi, daughter-in-law of Jitan Ram Manjhi, as the NDA candidate. Roshan Manjhi is the candidate from RJD. Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party has made Jitendra Paswan its candidate.
The last date for nomination for by-elections on all four seats of Bihar is October 25. Voting will be held on November 13 and results will be released after counting on November 23.
