At least 39 people died in Chapra, Siwan and Gopaganj within two days due to liquor brought from Bhagwanpur Haat in Siwan, the neighboring district of Saran. This deadly liquor destroyed many houses. Many lives were destroyed. Not only six villages of Mashrak, Panapur and Madhaura of the district were affected, but many houses lost their livelihood and even faced trouble due to burning of the stove.

Teams were hastily formed for the raid. A campaign for arrest and recovery of liquor started but the series of deaths did not stop. The death toll started increasing from Thursday morning itself. Within no time six people died in Mashrak and this number increased to ten in Mashrak alone. Then, after the loss of life of two persons in Panapur and one in Madhaura, there was a mournful silence in their homes.

In the liquor scandal, 12 women from six villages of three blocks of Saran district lost their husbands and 21 innocent children lost their father. The poisonous liquor has rendered ten families of Mashrak, two of Panapur and one of Madhaura destitute. There is a mournful silence in the village due to screams in every house. People’s hearts are bursting with the lamentations of widows and screams of innocent children. The most pathetic situation is that of deceased Islamuddin of Mashrak and Anil Rawat of Panapur.
The family of Islamuddin, who was on the verge of death in Brahimpur village of Mashrak, is completely devastated. The only earning member of the family was 35-year-old Islamuddin. He fell asleep after consuming poisonous liquor. He left behind a happy family in trouble. Islamuddin, who had to work as a laborer to support his family with great difficulty, would sometimes indulge in intoxicants in his company, despite much opposition from his family. As soon as the news of his death was received, there was mourning in his house. Wife Tabassum Parveen was more worried about the upbringing of her two sons Aman and Arif.
News of deaths one after the other kept coming in Saran’s Mashrak poisonous liquor case. With this, a mournful silence spread in the house of the relatives of the deceased. On Thursday, the second day of the liquor scandal, many people lost their lives. After this, their home and dreams started falling apart. The family members of the deceased suddenly could not believe that the person who till yesterday had the responsibility of running the family on his strong shoulders, is no more in this world. Small children were looking at the sky and cursing God as to why they had to bear the brunt of their mistake. Some had their father’s shadow removed from their heads and some had their uncle’s shadow removed from their heads and untimely. In Mashrak’s Brahmipur, Pilkhi and Kaiya Tola, stoves did not burn for the second day and an atmosphere of crying was witnessed. The atmosphere of many villages was sad due to the screams of women. When many dead bodies were being burnt simultaneously on the river bank and crematorium, everyone’s eyes were moist.
A pouch of fifty rupees and a fish of two hundred rupees destroyed the world.
Shamshad and Islamuddin, residents of Brahimpur, Mashrak, did not know that a party of fifty rupees worth of pouches and Rs. 200 worth of fish would destroy their entire world. Islamuddin, who used to work as a laborer to support his family, forgot all about what his family would face after his departure. Not only this, his cousin Shamshad was also engrossed in the same entertainment. There is a crisis of maintenance on his family.
Excise Secretary and DM interrogated the family members
Excise Department Secretary Vinod Singh Gunjiyal and Saran DM Aman Sameer reached Brahimpur village of Mashrak on Thursday. Met the families of the deceased, took information and assured them of assistance. During this, both the officers also made the villagers aware about the harm caused by alcohol. Secretary Vinod Singh Gunjiyal also tried to get important information about the liquor scandal by talking to some villagers present in Brahimpur village.
