Zakia Jafri dies
Zakia Jafri, wife of former Congress MP Ehsan Jaffrey, who was killed in the 2002 riots in Gujarat, died in Ahmedabad on Saturday. She was 86 years old. Zakia Jafri died in the morning according to his family member. Jakia was at her daughter’s house at the time and was having a normal conversation with the family when she suddenly complained of restlessness. The doctor was immediately called, who declared him dead at around 11:30 am.
Husband was murdered in riots
Zakia Jafri was among the citizens who fought a decisive legal battle against riots in the entire Gujarat after the train arson incident in Godhra. Her husband Ehsan Jafri, who was murdered on 28 February 2002 at the Gulberg Society in Ahmedabad, was among the 69 people who were killed in the violence. The incident took place a day after the fire incident in the Sabarmati Express train in Godhra, in which 59 kar sevaks died.
Fought fight till Supreme Court
Zakia Jafri knocked on the court to expose the conspiracy of communal riots in the state after the incident and fought his battle to the Supreme Court. In his struggle, he tried to hold prominent political leaders responsible for this violence.
His son Tanveer Jafri said, “My mother came to my sister’s house in Ahmedabad. She completed her daily work in the morning and was negotiating with family members in general, when she complained of restlessness. The doctor was called who declared him dead at around 11:30 am. ”
Teesta Setalvad tweet
In the protest petition of Jafri in the Supreme Court, co-complaint Teesta Setalwad said on ‘X’, “A gentleman of the human rights community, Zakia Apa, died just 30 minutes ago! His visionary presence will be remembered by the country, family, friends as well as the whole world! Tanveer Bhai, Nishreen, Duraiyappa, Nati-Natin we are with you! Rest peacefully, Aapa! “
