Saurashtra pacer Chetan Sakaria is all set to make a fresh start in his career after a blistering first year in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He will represent the 2020 finalists Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022. Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals has bought Sakaria in the IPL 2022 mega auction for Rs 4.2 crore. Chetan Sakaria made his IPL debut in 2021. Then he was part of Rajasthan Royals. He made headlines in the tournament by taking the wicket of Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Sakariya has described MS Dhoni’s wicket in IPL 2021 as the best moment of his career. Also revealed that now he is keen to dismiss Virat Kohli. Chetan Sakaria made his IPL debut in the 2021 season against Punjab Kings. He conceded some runs in his third over in that match. It also included a noball. He was disappointed by this.
Left-arm fast bowler Chetan Sakaria had a great debut season last year. He made a place in the limited overs Indian team on the basis of his impressive performance. The 24-year-old had played one T20 and two ODIs for India in Sri Lanka. He also has 3 international wickets to his name. Sakaria took 14 wickets in 14 matches in IPL 2021. This boy from Gujarat played for Saurashtra in the recent Ranji Trophy 2021-22 season under the leadership of Jaydev Unadkat.
Sakariya mentioned that his first IPL match for Rajasthan Royals was also special. However, Dhoni’s wicket was the best moment in the previous edition. Sakaria told cricket.com, “Taking the wicket of MS Dhoni is definitely the best moment for me in IPL 2021. My debut game was also special, but nothing like taking the wicket of Dhoni bhai. He is the legend of the game and it’s always a great feeling to get someone out.
Sakariya shared the experience of bowling to AB de Villiers in the nets and told how tough it was. However, with de Villiers retiring from professional cricket, Sakaria is now looking to dismiss another highly-rated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Virat Kohli in IPL 2022.
Sakariya Said, ‘I bowled de Villiers in the nets as well as in the match. It is very difficult to bowl to him as he plays all kinds of shots in the death overs. But now that he is retired, I will not get a chance to get him out. So Virat bhai is the only batsman I want to get out in IPL 2022.
Remembering the debut match Sakariya Said, ‘I remember a brief conversation with Ben Stokes in my debut match. He really boosted my confidence. Playing against Punjab, I bowled a good over in the powerplay but messed up my third over. In that over, I bowled both good and bad deliveries. It also included a noball. I overstepped at a time when the game was already slipping out of our hands and we couldn’t afford to give extra runs.
Sakaria further said, ‘Then Ben Stokes came to me from long. He told me that I had not committed any offense by bowling a no-ball. Every bowler oversteps once. He also reminded me of the 20 he took in the last over of the T20 World Cup final. He was saying that not all balls are necessarily good. It’s a conversation that I miss dearly.’
