Champions Trophy: India has refused to send its team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. After the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed the ICC in this regard, the ICC has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about India’s decision. Since then, a situation of panic is visible in the Pakistan Cricket Board. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is busy discussing this matter with the Pakistan government.
India’s decision has dealt a huge blow to the PCB because the board is facing the threat of huge loss of income. Pakistan’s proposal to hold the tournament on hybrid model has already been rejected. Experts say that in such a situation, if the tournament is conducted on hybrid model or hosting is taken away from Pakistan, then Pakistan can boycott the Champions Trophy. Due to this, Pakistan Cricket Board is sure to get a blow worth billions.
PCB chairman’s discussion with Pakistan government
Pakistan Cricket Board is not ready for hybrid model. Under the hybrid model, India’s matches can be held at any other neutral venue outside Pakistan, but the Pakistan Cricket Board has rejected this possibility. Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi says that we do not accept the hybrid model. Now Naqvi is waiting for the decision of Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in this regard.
Experts say that the Pakistan government has said that it will take strict action in this matter. After India’s refusal to go to Pakistan, Naqvi is busy discussing with Pakistan government officials. The PCB had confirmed on Sunday that it has been informed by the ICC that the Indian team will not come to Pakistan to participate in the Champions Trophy.
PCB threatens to snatch hosting rights
After the Pakistan Cricket Board rejected the proposal of hybrid model, now there is a danger of snatching the hosting from Pakistan. Sources say that after India’s refusal, now consideration is being given to shifting the tournament to some other country. However, this step is not acceptable to Pakistan under any circumstances.
A report published in ‘Dawn’ quoting the Pakistan Cricket Board has said that if the rights to host the tournament are taken away from Pakistan, then it can withdraw its name from the ICC Champions Trophy to be held next year. A source in PCB says that if the tournament is shifted to some other country then Pakistan can take a big decision of not participating in this tournament.
This has also been conveyed to the PCB by the Government of Pakistan. Along with this, there is also speculation that the Pakistan government may also direct the PCB not to play against India in ICC or any other event until there is a change in the policies of the Indian government. It would have happened.
PCB will face huge financial loss
The Indian cricket team last toured Pakistan in 2008. After the terrorist attack in Mumbai, the Indian team has not visited Pakistan till date. For this reason, last year the Asia Cup was also organized on hybrid model.
In case the Champions Trophy is organized on a hybrid model or the hosting is taken away from Pakistan, it is certain that the PCB will face a loss of billions. PCB had dreamed of filling its coffers through the Champions Trophy, but India’s decision has dealt a huge blow to the PCB.
