Impressed by Umran Malik’s fast bowling, former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar feels the young Jammu and Kashmir bowler should be picked in the squad for this year’s T20 World Cup. “I have hope because he (Umran) is a wonderful talent,” Vengsarkar told reporters here. He did well in the IPL and deserves a chance. I hope he will be on the plane to Australia. ,
The T20 World Cup is to be played in Australia in October-November later this year. The former chairman of the national selection committee said, “He is young and eager to do well. You should give a chance to someone who is in rhythm.” Umran took 22 wickets in 14 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL this year. He made headlines by consistently bowling at a speed of 95 mph.
This rewarded him with a place in the squad for the T20 series against South Africa. She is also included in the T20 team that toured Ireland. Vengsarkar’s 1983 World Cup-winning teammate and former India all-rounder Roger Binny also feels that Umran should be given a chance in all three formats.
Binny said, “Obviously now there is going to be a big group of fast bowlers. And he (Umran) should be given a chance immediately because he has proved that his speed is faster than others. He bowled some amazing yorkers in the IPL. In such a situation, you cannot keep a young player out for a long time.
Vengsarkar on this occasion expressed hope that Virat Kohli will return to the rhythm in the Test match against England. Vengsarkar, who picked Kohli first in the national team, said, “I am sure because he (Kohli) is a world class player. She has done well and is very fit. I think he will make a strong comeback, especially in Tests in England. I expect big innings from Kohli and Rohit Sharma in England.
