Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh believes his career would not have been long had his teammate and former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh been the captain of the national team. The off-spinner believes that every captain picked him on merit. Harbhajan made his international debut in 1998 and played his last match for India in 2016.
The 41-year-old Bhajji said it is important for the captains to do what is required of the team before anything else. He said that no captain saved the players from getting out. Yuvraj and Harbhajan played together for most of their careers for India. He was also in the squad in the 2011 World Cup, which India won. Meanwhile, Harbhajan also feels that Yuvraj would have been a great captain.
Speaking to Sportskeeda, Harbhajan spoke about captaining India and his early days as a cricketer. He said that when one leads the national team, friendship should be kept aside and the country should be put first. He jokingly said that if Yuvraj had captained India, the players would have had to go to bed early and get up early. He insisted the all-rounder would have been a great captain.
Yuvraj was the Man of the Tournament of the ICC World Cup 2011. He was among the top 10 wicket-takers and run-scorers of the tournament. Harbhajan said, ‘I don’t think we would have a long career if Yuvraj was the captain. Because we have always played to our potential and no captain has saved us from being dropped. Whenever you captain the country, you need to keep friendship aside and think about the country first.
Harbhajan laughed and added, “If Yuvraj Singh was the Indian captain, we would have had to go to bed early and get up early. We had to work very hard. He would have been a great captain. His record speaks for itself as he won the Player of the Tournament in the 2011 World Cup, a title that gives us respect. ,
