ICC Meeting: No decision could be taken during the important meeting held today regarding the organization of Champions Trophy in Pakistan. Pakistan has got the hosting of this tournament. Now the decision will be taken in the next meeting
During the important meeting of ICC held today, 12 Full Members, 3 Associate Members and ICC President were also present. In this way, now a final decision regarding the tournament will be taken by the voting of 16 members. After today’s meeting ended inconclusively, experts say that now this issue will be discussed in the next meeting.
However, it has not yet been decided whether this meeting will be held tomorrow or it will be held on some other day. Informed sources say that during the next meeting it will be decided whether the tournament should be organized on hybrid model or the tournament should be shifted to some other place. The Indian team has not yet toured Pakistan after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
Pakistan remained firm on its stand
Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman and Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has already rejected the proposal of hybrid model. Even during today’s meeting, Naqvi remained firm on his stand and said that the PCB does not accept the hybrid model at all. The ICC had earlier been informed by the PCB that it would not accept organizing the tournament in the hybrid model.
Pakistan Cricket Board says that some other option should be found to organize the tournament. Pakistan Board has said that organizing the tournament on the basis of hybrid model will be nothing but giving preference to India. PCB says that India should clarify why its team does not want to come to Pakistan.
PCB objects to this step of India
The PCB has also told the ICC that a written instruction letter has not yet been submitted by India in which it is mentioned that the Government of India has instructed the Indian team not to tour Pakistan. .
Pakistan says that under ICC rules, if any team says that it has not received permission from the government to play in another country, then it will have to submit the instructions issued by the government in writing, but India is yet to do so. No such instructions have been presented till now.
No compromise on players’ safety
Meanwhile, Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Rajeev Shukla has also given a big statement regarding the Champions Trophy. Before the ICC meeting, he said that the safety of its players is most important for India. India cannot make any compromise with the safety of its players. He said that the hybrid model is an important option for organizing the Champions Trophy and discussions are being held in this regard.
If Pakistan remains adamant, India is ready to host
In this regard, the statement of Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has also come out. He said that the statement issued by BCCI has highlighted security related concerns in Pakistan. The statement of the Foreign Ministry spokesperson has made it clear that the Indian team will not tour Pakistan.
The Indian government has said that if Pakistan is not ready for the hybrid model, then India will take responsibility for it. Foreign players will also not face any problem in coming to India. This matter has been put forward in the meeting by BCCI.
After no decision was taken in today’s ICC meeting, now all eyes are on the next meeting. Experts say that if Pakistan remains adamant on not accepting the hybrid model, then this tournament can be shifted to some other country. In such a situation, Pakistan is sure to face a big blow.
