The Twitter war between former England captain Michael Vaughan and former India opener Wasim Jaffer continues in the fifth Test match being played between Team India and England at Edgbaston. Recently, Jaffer hit back at Vaughan, when the former England captain made a tweet comparing Rishabh Pant to Jonny Bairstow. With England in a strong position in the Edgbaston Test, Vaughan trolled Jaffer, to which he got the answer.
Team India gave a target of 379 runs to England. Jack Crawley and Alex Lees put on a 107-run partnership for the first wicket to get the hosts off to a great start. After this the team got three shocks one after the other. Then Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow took over the team. Both batted aggressively and shared a 150-run partnership for the fourth wicket till the end of the fourth day. Chasing a record target, England need just 119 runs.
India, on the other hand, need seven wickets on the final day to win the Test. The team has not won a Test series on England soil since 2007. In such a situation, Vaughan tagged Jaffer on Twitter and asked if he was nervous. The former opener of Team India replied and shared a meme about Jethalal’s character of Taarak Mehta Ke Ooltah Chashmah.
Earlier on Rishabh Pant’s century in the first innings, Vaughan had said, “It is good to see Rishabh Pant batting like Jonny Bairstow.” Indian fans were very angry on this. When Bairstow scored a century, Jaffer trolled Vaughan, tweeting, “Great to see Jonny Bairstow batting like Rishabh Pant.”
England achieved the target of 359 runs in the Ashes Test against Australia in the year 2019 on the basis of Ben Stokes’s superb unbeaten century. The team has not chased a bigger target than this. Team India is leading 2-1 in the five-match series. Four matches of the series were played last year. The fifth Test being played at Edgbaston was to be held at Old Trafford. The Indian squad was postponed after corona cases surfaced.
