IND vs Eng Test Match: During the India vs England Test series, Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been found guilty of violation of the Code of Conduct by the ICC. Rishabh Pant has been given an official warning on charges of expressing dissatisfaction over the umpire’s decision. A demerit point has been added to his record. The incident took place on the third day of the headingley test.
Pant’s objection to the ball is old
There was a dispute in the 61st over of England’s innings on the third day of the first Test being played between India and England. At that time England batsmen Harry Brooke and Ben Stokes were present at the crease. Rishabh Pant objected to the ball being old and demanded the umpires to change the ball. After investigation from the ball gauge, umpires Chris Gaffni and Paul Refel found the ball right and refused to change.
Dissatisfaction towards umpire’s decision
After that, Rishabh Pant, angry with the umpire’s decision, slammed the ball on the ground angrily. His action has come under the category of dissatisfaction with the umpire’s decision under Article 2.8 of the Code of Conduct of ICC. Which is considered a violation of level one. On this, the ICC has issued an official warning to Rishabh Pant. He has added 1 demerit point to his account as well, which is the first demerit point in the last 24 months.
Pant punished for level 1 violations
Rishabh Pant gets a total of four demerit points in the next 24 months, so he can be suspended from a test or two limited overs international matches. According to the statement issued by the ICC, Rishabh Pant has accepted the punishment given by match referee Richie Richardson. Due to which there was no hearing of the case. Now the maximum punishment for Level 1 violations includes 50 percent fine of match fees and 1-2 demerit points.
