Former Indian captain and 1983 World Cup winner Kapil Dev strongly criticized the decision on this change. Kapil Dev has described the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to rename the “Pataudi Trophy” to the decision to do Anderson -Tendulkar Trophy against the inappropriate and historical tradition.

Kapil Dev said in his statement, it seems a bit strange. The Pataudi Trophy is a historical symbol. Which represents the shared cricket heritage of India and England. Former captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi
It was named after former India captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and his father Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, both played Test cricket for India and England. This trophy is considered a symbol of cricket relations between the two countries. Now the ECB has named Anderson -Tendulkar Trophy, so that two veterans who set records in modern cricket can be honored by England’s James Anderson (the most Test wicket) and India’s Sachin Tendulkar (most Test run).

He said that this name is a symbol of a historical heritage, which is not appropriate to erase. Kapil Dev said that players like Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson are great in themselves, there may be other ways to honor him, but a trophy that is already associated with historical family and tradition, changing its name is not correct England and Wales Cricket Board decision.

The ECB clarified that even though the name of the trophy has been changed, the winning captain will be honored with the “Pataudi Medal”.
