Iyer played a brilliant innings of 92 runs in 98 balls which included 10 fours and 4 sixes. The 10th wicket of the Indian team fell in his form and he was stumped by Jayavikrama.
Shreyas Iyer did everything well, played a brilliant innings, but despite this, an unwanted record was recorded in his name. He became the fourth player in Test cricket for India to be stumped after 90 or so (before 100). He was stumped by wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella off Praveen Jayavikrama’s delivery.
Shreyas Iyer made his Test debut against New Zealand at the end of last year in Kanpur. He played a useful innings for India by scoring a century in his first Test match itself. He has so far scored 321 runs in 6 innings of 4 test matches, which includes one century and two half-centuries.
In the Day-Night Pink Ball Test against Sri Lanka, the Indian team was all out for 252 runs. Apart from Iyer, no batsman could touch the 50 mark. Rishabh Pant scored 39 runs in 26 balls and played a short and effective innings. The spinners did wonders for Sri Lanka and took 8 wickets in India’s 10. Jayavikrama and Lasith Embuldeniya took 3-3 and Dhananjay de Silva took 2 wickets.
In the first Test of the series, India defeated the visitors by an innings and 222 runs in Mohali. The Indian team is leading 1-0 in the series and if India wins this match or this match is a draw, then it will be India’s 15th consecutive Test series win at home. No team in the world has been able to do this. Australia has won only 10 Test series in a row at home.
