No one can forget India’s historic Test series win in Australia in 2021. The Ajinkya Rahane-led side made a spectacular comeback after losing the first Test. There were a lot of ups and downs in this series. There was a big controversy during the Sydney Test. There were racist comments on Mohammad Siraj. This broke him and started crying. This has been disclosed by former Australia Test captain Tim Paine.
Siraj was fielding at the boundary when spectators made racist remarks and abused him. Captain Ajinkya Rahane informed the umpires Paul Rifel and Paul Wilson. He also said that Jasprit Bumrah was also treated in a similar manner. The match was called off for a while. The umpires gave Rahane the option to take his team off the field and return after the matter was over, but the Indian team remained on the field. The security officers had thrown the people out of the field for doing so.
Condemning the behavior of the Australian supporters, Team Paine came out in support of Siraj and the Indian team. He said in the docuseries Bandon Mein Tha Dum, which is being streamed on Voot, “In Australia we treat our visiting cricket teams very well. So it was disappointing to see it again.”
This was Siraj’s first visit and he had lost his father during this time, so racial remarks broke him. Pen said about it, “I still remember that I went to Siraj, he had tears in his eyes and tears were running down his cheeks. He was hurt a lot. He had lost his father shortly before.”
Paine and the Aussies fully backed Siraj, reminding the audience that few things are more important in a game than rivalry. Siraj had a stellar performance on the tour. Team India was battling an injury in the Gabba Test, in which the right-arm bowler led the bowling attack. After returning from Australia, he paid tribute to his father in Hyderabad.
