A source said, “Yes, at present it is 90% decided that Ajinkya Rahane will be the new captain of KKR, but KKR has bought him specifically for the purpose of being a viable captaincy option.”
In such a situation, it is clear that Venkatesh Iyer will not be the captain for IPL 2025. Venkatesh Iyer was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders in the mega auction for Rs 23.75 crore. Rinku Singh’s name has also come up for the new captain of KKR. But for the franchise, only experienced Ajinkya Rahane will captain the team. Ajinkya Rahane had already been a part of KKR in the year 2022 and then he got a chance to play only 7 matches. Ajinkya Rahane has captained Rising Pune Supergiants and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. Rahane has captaincy experience in IPL. Rahane has captained a total of 25 matches in IPL so far, out of which he has won 9 matches and the team has faced defeat in 16 matches.
