94 matches will be IPL
In future, IPL will be 94 matches. The BCCI is also seriously considering the subject. BCCI is also in talks about this from ICC. 84 matches were going to happen on the same season but it could not be implemented.
The IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said that, BCCI is seriously considering expanding 94 matches in home-and-off format in the coming years, which will take place in 2028.
He further said that, since the Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) landed in 2022, the IPL currently has a format of 74 matches. Ghoomal further said that, ‘Surely, this could be an opportunity. We are also discussing this in ICC, we are also discussing in-house in BCCI. Given how fans in relation to franchise cricket and T20 cricket in relation to bilateral and ICC events are changing.
He further said that, we have to talk more seriously about it and see how we can make maximum value for the stakeholders of the game. Ideally, we want a big window, perhaps want to go from 74 to 84 or 94 matches. So that every team needs 94 matches for every team to easily get a chance to play in domestic and external matches.
Continuing his point, he further said that, there was a discussion about increasing the IPL to 84 matches for the current session, but it was delayed due to the busy schedule. For this, the time limit will also have to be taken care of.
