Champions Trophy 2025: Bad news has emerged for India before the Champions Trophy. India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah may be out of some group stage matches during the Champions Trophy. Jasprit Bumrah had back pain during the last Test match played in Sydney under the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and currently he is suffering from back injury. For this reason, he did not even come out to bowl during Australia’s second innings.
BCCI has asked Bumrah to report to NCA. It is expected that Jasprit Bumrah can recover from his back problem during the first week of March. In such a situation, India will not be able to take advantage of Bumrah’s bowling in the group stage matches because the Champions Trophy is going to start from February 19.
Jasprit Bumrah will recover in NCA
According to a BCCI source, Bumrah had complained of back pain after which he was scanned. He is currently recovering and has been asked to report to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. According to BCCI source, Bumrah is expected to make a full recovery soon after reaching NCA.
However, there does not seem to be complete certainty yet regarding Bumrah regarding the Champions Trophy. The final decision regarding his selection in the team will be taken only after seeing his fitness. The selectors are keeping a close eye on the incident related to Bumrah.
Request to extend the team selection deadline
According to experts, during the Team India selection meeting held in Mumbai, the selectors were given a complete update about Jasprit Bumrah. The last date for announcing the teams for the Champions Trophy is January 12, but BCCI has requested ICC to extend this deadline.
It is believed that during this time the selectors want to be completely sure about Bumrah. According to a report published in an English newspaper, the selectors are still considering whether they should include Bumrah in the 15-member Indian team or should give him a place among the reserve players.
Bumrah may be out of initial matches
BCCI source says that Bumrah is expected to be completely fit by March. In such a situation, Team India may have to be deprived of Bumrah’s services in the initial matches. However, during the knockout match, Bumrah can take charge of the bowling for India. After Bumrah’s stay in NCA for three weeks, he will be played in one or two practice matches and after that he is ready to take part in the important match.
Bumrah has been leading the fast bowling front for India for a long time. Bumrah also bowled brilliantly during the series against Australia. The eyes of the world are on Bumrah during the Champion Trophy. Fans of Team India hope that he will soon recover and start fast bowling for India during the Champions Trophy.
