Fauja Singh Dies at 114: Fauja Singh, the world’s oldest marathon runner, is no longer in this world. He died at the age of 114 in a road accident in Punjab on Monday (July 14). As soon as this news came to light, everyone from the sports world to the common people was shocked that the road on which Fauja Singh created history, now became the reason for his death.
Painful accident on highway, ‘Turban Torneado’ could not survive
Born on 1 April 1911 in Beas village in Jalandhar district of Punjab, Fauja Singh went out for a walk on Jalandhar-Pathankot highway on Monday afternoon, but then he became a victim of road accident. According to the report, he was hit by a car, causing serious head injuries. Fauja Singh was rushed to the hospital, but died at 7:30 pm.
Fauja Singh created history at the age of 100
Where the world thinks of retirement after 60, Fauja Singh took the race seriously at the age of 89. He first attended the London Marathon in 2000. He ran a total of 9 marathons in cities like London, New York and Toronto. His best time was 5 hours 40 minutes 4 seconds in Toronto. In 2011, when he participated in the Toronto Marathon, he was 100 years old, due to which he came to be called ‘The Turban Tornado’.

Fauja Singh not only participated in the race, but he has also been an Olympic flashlight. 2004 Athens and 2012 at London Games. He has also appeared in a famous sports brand advertisement along with veterans like David Beckham and Mohammad Ali.
Governor was also emotional
There is a wave of mourning in the country due to the death of Fauja Singh. Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria expressed condolences, saying, “Even at the age of 114, there was a different energy in his presence. In December 2024, it was a good fortune for me to walk with him in the ‘drug -free – Rangla Punjab’ March.”
