After a stellar start as the all-format captain of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma has now turned his attention to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. After clearing Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma met the coaching and support staff of Mumbai Indians on Tuesday, March 15, ahead of IPL 2022.
Rohit hugged former Sri Lankan cricket team captain and current head coach of Mumbai Indians Mahela Jayawardene. During this, Jayawardene took fun of Rohit Sharma. Mumbai Indians have shared the video of this meeting on their social media platforms. In the video posted on Twitter, Jayawardene can be heard saying, “His hair has turned gray since assuming the captaincy.”
Let us tell you that after a mediocre performance in the T20 World Cup last year, Rohit Sharma was appointed as India’s white-ball captain. When Virat Kohli stepped down after losing the 1-2 series against South Africa, Rohit was handed over the Test captaincy as well.
The Rohit era in Indian cricket has begun with Team India winning the home series against Sri Lanka. India defeated Sri Lanka 3-0 in the T20I series and 2-0 in the Test. Rohit has so far led India to 16 wins out of 17 T20 Internationals. With this, Rohit overtook England’s Eoin Morgan and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson.
Overall, Rohit Sharma has captained 24 matches in T20 Internationals in his career so far. Out of this, Team India has won 22. The win against Sri Lanka marked India’s 11th consecutive victory under his leadership. This was Rohit’s third consecutive series win since becoming the full-time captain of the T20 format in November 2021.
Rohit Sharma Mumbai Indians, led by him, have won the IPL title five times. Now Mumbai Indians will start their campaign for the sixth title against Delhi Capitals on March 27 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
IPL This time it will last for 65 days. During this 70 league matches and four playoff matches will be played. The 15th season of IPL will start from March 26 at the Wankhede Stadium where Chennai Super Kings will face Kolkata Knight Riders. 20-20 matches will be held at Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium, while 15-15 matches will be held at Brabourne and MCA International Stadium in Pune.
There will be a total of 12 double-headers in IPL 2022. In the event of a double header, the first match will start at 3:30 pm. Otherwise all matches will start at 7:30 PM IST. The schedule for the playoffs and the IPL final to be played on May 29 will be announced later.
