Young opener Prithvi Shaw was once again ignored when the Indian squad for the two T20Is against Ireland was announced. Shaw has played just one T20I for India in the Indian Premier League (IPL) despite impressing Delhi Capitals (DC) with a quick start. Last year in Sri Lanka, he was out for a golden duck.
Shaw is considered a player with a lot of potential, but due to players like Ishan Kishan and Rituraj Gaikwad, he is not getting the opportunity. Former India selector Saba Karim opened up about why Shaw is being ignored during a press conference.
According to NDTV.com, Saba Karim said in response to a question, “There are many young openers ahead of Prithvi Shaw right now and that is the reason why he is not being selected, but it does not mean that he cannot make a comeback soon. . He has the talent to play amazing shots. He has done very well for Delhi in the last two seasons. He is expected to score more runs that he is capable of.”
Saba Karim further said that apart from scoring runs consistently, Prithvi Shaw should focus on his fitness. He said, “He also needs to work hard on his fitness so that he can compete with the other opener batsmen of the team. I think he just needs to spend his time and score runs. Youngsters like him have enough time to make a comeback in the national team.”
