Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar believes that Harshal Patel will be Team India’s trump card in the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia. He insisted that he should be a part of Team India. Patel has done wonders with the ball over the years. He made his international debut for India after a stellar performance in IPL 2021. He won the Purple Cap after taking 32 for RCB. He made his debut against New Zealand last year and has been a part of the Indian team’s T20 setup since then.
Patel has done well in the absence of senior bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. He was also the highest wicket-taker for India during the recently concluded series against South Africa. Talking about the Indian pacer, Gavaskar said that the 31-year-old bowler will be the trump card during the T20 World Cup in Australia. He has variety and can be used in powerplays and slog overs.
Gavaskar said on Star Sports, “He will prove to be the trump card. You also have Bhuvneshwar, Shami and Bumrah. A captain can depend on a player like him. He can also bowl in the powerplay, where bowlers now change the pace as well. He should definitely be a part of the team.”
Former South Africa captain Graeme Smith also backed Patel for a place in India’s T20 World Cup squad and said that his ability to handle pressure will prove to be beneficial for the team. “He has been excellent,” he said. In the death overs, not everyone shows skill with the slow ball, but I think they got their right length from the third match. Took wickets and kept the pressure on South Africa. ,
Smith further praised Harshal Patel and said, “He has all the skills as an all-rounder bowler and he can be a huge advantage to the team and handles the pressure very well and thinks clearly under pressure. ” Let us tell you that Harshal also bats well. He captains Haryana in domestic cricket.
