Suryakumar Yadav surgery: Indian T20 team captain Suryakumar Yadav has recently undergone successful surgery of sports hernia. The operation was carried out on 25 June in Munich, Germany. After surgery, Suryakumar himself shared the health update on his Instagram account. He wrote, “Sports hernia has undergone surgery, which has been successful. Now I am slowly recovering. I am excited to return to the field soon.
Sports hernia not like normal hernia
According to BCCI sources, this operation was previously proposed in London, but at the last moment the location was changed to Munich. The medical team of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is keeping an eye on the entire process. Sports hernia is called “athletic pubalzia” in medical language. It is not like normal hernia. It causes stretch or swelling in the muscles near the lower abdomen or the thighs. This problem is caused by most of the players running fast, sudden turn.
Physiotherapy and light stretching advice
The major symptoms of sports hernia cause severe pain near the abdomen or waist below. Which emerges especially while playing. Initial treatment recommends rest, physiotherapy and light stretching, but if the pain persists, the operation is the final option. Suryakumar Yadav is resting in the hospital after surgery, he has to start physiotherapy within two weeks. He will then start a rehabilitation phase at BCCI’s Bangalore’s Center of Excellence.
Suryakumar Yadav out of Bangladesh tour
Because of this, Suryakumar Yadav is out of the Bangladesh tour, where India has to play three ODIs and three T20 matches in July. The BCCI has not yet announced the name of other players in his place. Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav scored a record 717 runs in IPL 2025, performing brilliantly. He has named a unique record. They have to score 25+ runs in 16 consecutive innings. He has got the ‘Player of the Tournament’. This is Suryakumar’s third major surgery.

Earlier, he underwent ankle surgery in 2023 and sports hernia surgery for the first time in 2024. According to doctors and BCCI Medical Team, Suryakumar can fit by the end of August. In such a situation, it is expected that he can return to the T20 series starting against Bangladesh from 26 August.
