Kapil Dev is generally quite impressed with the current squad of Indian young cricketers. He often praises young and talented players, but doesn’t shy away from criticizing someone for lacking them. The T20 World Cup is to be held in Australia later this year. All the teams participating in this tournament are busy in their preparations. One area that attracts more attention in the Indian team than others is that of the wicketkeepers.
It will be interesting to see how many wicketkeeper-batsmen out of Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Dinesh Karthik make their way into the T20 World Cup squad. If Kapil Dev is given the responsibility of choosing any of these four, then it will definitely be troublesome for him. The former captain of the Indian cricket team says that he finds everyone equally capable with the bat and behind the stumps.
However, there is one wicketkeeper among them that he is very sad about and that is Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson. Captain Kapil Dev, who made the Indian team world champions for the first time, believes Sanju Samson’s brilliance doesn’t justify his return with the bat.

Kapil Dev said, ‘To be honest, if I have to pick a better wicketkeeper among the three (Dinesh Karthik, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson), I would say that they are almost at the same level. I can’t say that there is much difference. Batting in all respects, each one is better than the other. One day, all three can win matches for India on their own terms.
Kapil Dev said, ‘If you talk about Wriddhiman Saha, I would say that he is one of the better wicketkeepers out of the three, but the rest are much better batsmen as well. I am deeply saddened by Sanju Samson. He is very talented. But he scores in 1-2 matches and then fails. There is no continuity.’
Sanju Samson has played 13 T20 matches for India so far and has scored a total of 174 runs. However, there is not a single half-century in it. Samson has scored 484 and 458 runs in the last two seasons with Rajasthan Royals, but despite leading the franchise to the finals of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, he is the only Indian for the five-match T20 International series against South Africa. Missed a place in the team.
