World Chess Championship: India’s 18-year-old D Gukesh has created a new history in the World Chess Championship. Gukesh has now become the new and youngest world champion of chess. He has achieved the distinction of becoming the youngest world champion in the world of chess by defeating the defending champion Ding Liren of China. In the World Chess Championship being played in Singapore, both the players were tied till the 13th game but in the 14th game, Gukesh defeated Liren and ended China’s dominance in the chess world.
The mistake cost the Chinese player dearly.
During this match between the two grand masters of chess, Liren’s mistake proved costly for him. This match was moving towards tie breaker but during this time Liren made such a mistake due to which he had to lose the game, the match and the crown. The 14th and last round match was played between the two players on Thursday in which Gukesh created history.
The noteworthy thing is that at the age of 18, Gukesh ended the reign of China by becoming the new king of chess. Mukesh has become the youngest world champion of chess. The special thing about him is that he has become the 18th World Chess Champion at the age of 18.
After Anand, other players who showed amazing performance
This match of the World Chess Championship was being played for several days in Singapore. Liren had won this championship last year and they came to play as the defending champions. Gukesh, on the other hand, had entered this championship as a challenger by winning the Candidates Tournament held earlier this year. Gukesh became only the second Indian and the youngest player in the world after Vishwanathan Anand to reach the World Championship and he did wonders.
Both players were on par till the 13th game.
Before the 14th and last round of the championship, 13 matches were played between the two players in which both were on equal points. During thirteen matches, both the players had won two matches each while nine matches were drawn. In such a situation, both the players had 6.5-6.5 points. If the 14th match had also been a draw, both the players would have had seven points each and then the new chess champion would have been decided through a try-breaker, but 18-year-old Di Gukesh did not let this happen. He achieved the honor of becoming the new world champion by defeating 32-year-old Liren. He defeated the Chinese Grandmaster in the last match and won the title by a margin of 7.5-6.5. Gukesh will get Rs 18 crore if he becomes world champion.
Gukesh’s name recorded in history
After becoming the new world champion of chess, Gukesh became very emotional and started crying while sitting on his chair. The joy of becoming world champion was clearly visible on his face. By winning the 14th game, Gukesh registered his name in the history of world chess. After Vishwanathan Anand, Gukesh has given a big opportunity to the countrymen to celebrate by achieving the kingship of chess all over the world. Gukesh is the second Indian player after Anand to become world champion. There has been a wave of happiness in the entire country after Gukesh became the world champion and there is an influx of people congratulating him.
