WTC Final Points Table: Recently a three-match Test series was played between India and New Zealand. In which the Indian team had to face defeat in all three matches. By winning three matches, the Kiwi team not only won the trophy but also increased India’s problems even more in view of the WTC Final. After this defeat, India’s crown of being number one in the WTC Final Points Table has also been snatched away.
India is no longer number one in WTC Final Points Table
Due to losing all three matches of the Test series against New Zealand, it has now become very difficult for the Indian team to reach the final of this edition of the World Test Championship. At the same time, with India’s defeat, the path to reach the final has become easier for some teams. In fact, before the New Zealand series, the Indian team was a strong contender to reach the finals in the 2023-25 edition of the WTC, in which its place was considered almost certain, whereas now after the defeat in the series against New Zealand, the future is now clear for Team India. The path has also become very difficult. Currently, a total of 18 test matches are to be played in this edition of WTC, in which India will play 5 matches and they have to play this series on the tour of Australia starting from 22nd November.
In such a situation, it is now very difficult for India to make it to the finals. On the other hand, South Africa has benefited the most from Team India’s defeat, which is currently ranked 5th in the current edition of the World Test Championship and has a PCT of 54.17. The South African team still has to play 2 test series and both are at home. South Africa has to play a 2-match series against Sri Lanka and a 2-match series against Pakistan. In such a situation, if South Africa is successful in winning these four matches, then it will finish with 69.11 PCT in the WTC Final Points Table and will secure its place in the final. At the same time, if Africa wins three out of these four Test matches and there is one draw, then in this situation their PCT will be 63.89 and if they have to face defeat in one match, then the percentage of points will be 61.11. Even in this situation, the South African team has more chances of reaching the final but they will definitely have to depend on the results of other matches.
The New Zealand team has also staked its claim to reach the final. The Kiwi team is yet to play a three-match Test series against England at home in the WTC cycle, in which if the Kiwi team is successful in winning all three matches, then their PCT which is currently 54.55 will be 64.29. Although this will not completely confirm the Kiwi team’s place in the final, but based on the result of the second series, the New Zealand team will definitely remain in the race to reach this match.
It will be very important for Sri Lanka to win the last four matches. The percentage of points of the Sri Lankan team has been 55.56 in which the Sri Lankan team is yet to play 2-2 match test series, in which it has to play one against Australia at home and one on the tour of South Africa. In such a situation, if the Sri Lankan team is successful in winning these four matches, then that team will have 48 points and its percentage of points will be 69.23, which will completely confirm its place in the finals. However, if they lose even one of these matches, the Sri Lankan team will have to depend on the results of the matches of other teams.
