Airtel-starlink deal: Internet connectivity in India is going to be super fast. To take internet speed connectivity to a new height, the Indian network company Airtel and Alan Musk’s company have fixed the deal with the Stalink of Space X. Airtel gave information about this agreement in a regulatory filing on Tuesday.
Under this deal, SpaceX’s Starlink Satellite Internet Service will be launched soon in India. However, this deal is still waiting for the approval of the Government of India. Airtel and Starlink together will explore ways to increase internet connectivity in India. Apart from this, both companies can sell equipment at their retail stores and give business high-speed satellite internet.
Both companies will work together to deliver internet to rural schools, healthcare centers and remote areas. Starlink’s satellite technology will further strengthen Airtel’s existing network. While Spacex will be able to use Airtel’s ground infrastructure.
Airtel has already partnered for satellite broadband with Eutelsat Onweeb. This new deal with Starlink will further increase Airtel’s coverage. Especially in areas where the Internet is not accessible. This will provide high-speed broadband to business and communities in remote areas. Which will open new development opportunities.
Speaking to PTI, Bharti Airtel Managing Director and Vice Chairman Gopal Vittal said that working with SpaceX to provide Starlink services to Airtel customers in India is an important milestone and shows the company’s commitment to the next generation satellite connectivity.
Vittal said that this partnership will give us the ability to deliver high-speed broadband even to the most remote areas of India. Starlink will improve the products of Airtel, so that every Indian can get cheap and reliable internet.
Bringing Starlink to India in association with Spacex is a big milestone. This shows our commitment that we bring connectivity of the next generation to every corner of India.
This partnership will also give us the capacity to deliver high-speed broadband to the most remote areas of India. Starlink will improve Airtel’s products, so that every Indian can get cheap and reliable internet.
Space X President Gwin Shotwell said that we are excited about the transformative impact of Starlink for the people of India by working with Airtel. Airtel’s team has played an important role in India’s telecom sector. So working with them is the right step for us.
The agreement came a few weeks after the recent meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Allen Musk. Modi met Musk during his visit to America, which talked about increasing cooperation on Innovation, Space Exploration, Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Development.
Alan Musk had long wanted to bring Starlink to India, but the regulatory challenges and domestic telecom veterans like Reliance Jio slowed down progress. In November 2022, India’s Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that Starlinks did not follow the security rules, which stalled its satellite communication license. India is a big market, where 40 percent of the 1.4 billion people are still deprived of the Internet.
