If you take the help of a third-party app to record the call, you may not be able to do so after a few days. This is because Google’s new policy is going to tighten the noose on third-party call recording apps on Android smartphones. According to reports, from May 11, app developers will not be able to provide call recording feature through third party apps. The company has recently made some changes in its Play Store policy and one of them is aimed at shutting down call recording apps on Android. As per the new policy, apps are no longer allowed to use Accessibility API for call recording on Play Store.
What this means for Android smartphone users
This means that Android smartphone users who are using a smartphone without a built-in call recorder will not be able to record calls after May 11. However, the new policy changes, previously spotted by Reddit users NLL Apps, only affect third-party call recording apps.

In-built call recording option will work as before
The native call recording feature will still work as usual. So if a user has a built-in call recording option in his smartphone, he can continue to use it. This means they can record calls, but not with any third-party app. Phones that offer call recording are Xiaomi, some Samsung and Google Pixel phones. This is because system apps can get any permissions as they come pre-installed in the phone.
The search giant has been working for some time to stop call recording on Android devices. It blocked access to realtime call recording on Android 6 and restricted call recording to microphone on Android 10. However, call recording apps started using the Accessibility service to record calls on Android 10 and later. Google has also clarified the policy change in its developer seminar. The presenter explained the Google Play policy update during the webinar- “If the app is the default dialer on the phone and is also pre-loaded, the accessibility capability is not required to access the incoming audio stream, and therefore, not infringing.” Will happen.”
