Google Maps is one of the most prominent and widely used apps to locate and access the places you want to visit or travel to. However, you need an internet connection to use Google Maps. But wait! According to the information on Google’s support page, if you are traveling by car, you can also use Google Maps offline for reliable navigation and safety features when your car has poor internet connection. Google Maps Offline can be downloaded and updated automatically based on your current location and travel pattern.
It may be noted that this is only for Google Maps built into your car. The availability or functionality of the features may depend on your vehicle manufacturer or region and data plan. This facility is not available in all languages and also in countries/regions. You will be notified if you are outside the area covered by your Google Maps offline.

Google Maps provides data through the Vehicle Map Service (VMS) to support safety related driver assistant functions in cars, such as road sign integration and adaptive cruise control. These safety features depend on offline map data. To ensure that map data is always available, enable ‘automatic download’ in the Privacy Center.

Enable automatic downloads in the Privacy Center:
1. Open the Google Maps app.
2. Tap on Settings at the bottom.
3. Tap Privacy Center, then tap Offline Maps.
4. Select Download offline map automatically.
5. Make sure you have internet connection and wait for your offline map download to finish.
6. It is known that if you disable automatic downloading, previously downloaded maps will be kept, but no new maps will be downloaded automatically.
