Generation gap vs digital gap: In today’s time, technology is changing very fast. Its effect is visible on people of all ages. Earlier, the difference between parents and children was only in thinking and habits, but now it has also made a difference with technology. You can also call it a digital gap. In this, children grow up with mobile, internet and apps from childhood. They easily run mobiles, play online games and remain active on social media.

At the same time, the elderly and many parents feel difficulty in understanding these things. Due to this, the conversation between children and elders is reduced many times. The interests of both are separated and it is difficult to understand each other. If this distance is to be reduced, all the family members will have to try to understand technology and spend time with each other.

What is a digital gap?

Digital gap kya hota hai means the difference in technical information and its use. Today’s new generation i.e. children and young are growing up with mobile, internet, social media and apps. They easily understand and use these things, but these techniques seem new and sometimes difficult for the older generation, grandparents. They are unable to use mobile or internet as well. This causes conversation and understanding distance between family members. To reduce the digital gap problem, it is necessary that everyone give time to each other, help in learning the technique and use it balanced together.

How is a digital gap?

Ease of technology: Children now live between mobile, tablet and smart TV since birth. They easily understand video calls, YouTube and games from a very young age, while parents and elderly have difficulty in running phone settings or apps many times.Learning method is different: Children understand things without teaching, while the elderly need time, patience and help to learn anything new.Digital language difference: The younger generation is associated with the language, trend and mim culture of social media. They use short form videos, Instagram reels, and chat shortcuts, which older people do not understand. This also brings distance in the conversation.

Digital gap effects

In today’s time, distance in relationships is increasing due to digital gap side effect. When children are busy with mobile, laptop or game, parents are able to talk less to them. The first children used to play and talk with the parents in free time, but now they spend more time with the screen. This makes the parents feel that children are ignoring them, while the children feel that the elders do not understand their interests. Apart from this, there is a difference in thinking of both generations about studies and career. Children talk about online courses, digital skills and new techniques, while parents consider traditional studies and jobs to be correct.

What does the report say

According to a recent survey, 85% of the youth aged 15 to 25 in India spend more than 6 hours on mobile and internet every day. He is very active in social media, online games, videos and chatting. On the other hand, only 35% of people above 45 years of age use smartphones daily. Many of these people are limited to calls or messages only. The survey also revealed that 60% of India’s elderly do not know how to use digital payment, online banking or mobile apps properly. Due to this they are getting away from technology and their digital differences are increasing from the new generation.

Generation Gap has always been the difference between generations, but today this difference has taken the form of digital gap. This is not a major problem, but an opportunity, where young and elders can get a chance to understand and learn each other. We need to talk to each other with patience and love, and wish to learn new things. If children teach technology to elders and listen carefully to older children, then this distance can be reduced. When we try to understand each other’s world, this digital gap can become a quite large, which connects relationships, does not break.
