Jio Anniversary: Telecom sector giant Reliance Jio is celebrating the 8th anniversary of its launch on 5 September 2024. According to TRAI, before the launch of Jio, every Indian customer used to use only 410 MB of data in a month. But now the data consumption figure on Jio’s network alone has increased by more than 73 times to an astonishing level of 30.3 GB per customer per month, that is, more than 1 GB per customer per day. Due to the high consumption of Jio users, the data consumption figure of the industry has also increased. Now in the telecom sector, users are using about 25 GB of data every month.
Jio completes 8 years
When Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani launched Jio 8 years ago, no one had imagined that within a few years of its launch, Jio would become one of the largest telecom companies not only in the country but in the world. With 13 crore 5G customers, Jio’s customer base had increased to 49 crore. Today, Jio network is the world’s largest mobile traffic data network. 8 percent of the world’s mobile data traffic runs on the Jio network. Jio users consume 148.5 billion GB of data. Which is 60% of the country’s total data consumption. Due to Jio, India has moved from 155th position to first position in terms of data consumption.
Big plan for 5G
Reliance Jio’s record in 4G technology and speed has been excellent. Now the company’s big plans for 5G are also coming to the fore. The company is mastering technologies like AI for all, connected drones, connected ambulances-hospitals, connected farms-barns, connected schools-colleges, e-commerce ease, entertainment at incredible speed, robotics, cloud PC, virtual things with immersive technology.

The country has benefited in many ways with the advent of Jio. The cost of owning a mobile phone has come down with the introduction of free calling. India is also one of the cheapest data markets in the world. The backbone of the digital economy has been strengthened by the cheapness of data. We have left behind even developed and superpower countries in online transactions. E-commerce has been revitalized. Shopping from home, buying tickets, entertainment and banking have all become easier. New businesses have emerged due to the flood of unicorn companies. Obviously, employment has also increased.
