Government rejected GPS based fastag
The news of GPS -based Fastag caught the attention of people online, after which the government had to respond to the people. In an official statement, officials confirmed that no decision has been taken to launch a satellite-based tolling system from May 1. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has also clarified that neither it nor the National Highway Authority of India has approved such a step. Instead, a barrier -free tolling system will be introduced on a select toll plaza using the automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) in association with Fastag to make the movement of vehicles easier.

The news of GPS -based fastag is not true, but the upcoming system will integrate automated number plate identification (ANPR) technology with existing fastg frame work. ANPR cameras will scan the vehicle license plates for identification, while the RFID technology of the fastag will handle the toll payment, allowing the vehicles to pass through the toll plaza without stopping. If a vehicle fails to follow the system, electronic notices (e-notes) will be issued. Fastag suspension and other punishment may occur under the vehicle database for not making continuous payment.
