Whatsapp Feture Update: WhatsApp is coming soon with a big change. As part of this change, the app itself is getting a built-in contact manager, which allows you to save contacts within the app, so that if you change phones, your contact list is not lost.
Till now users could add contacts using their mobile device by typing a phone number or scanning a QR code. Now WhatsApp is changing this by introducing an in-app contact saving feature. This means that soon users will be able to manage their contacts easily. The numbers will be saved directly on WhatsApp.
WhatsApp usually relies on your smartphone address book to hold and manage the contact list. But this poses a problem for those users who do not have a backup of their phone contacts. In such a situation, problems arise if the device is lost, damaged or replaced. Sharing a phone without backup or managing multiple accounts with different contacts on one device also poses a problem.
What will happen now
You will now be able to save contacts on WhatsApp Web and Windows. WhatsApp company Meta says that you will be able to do this on other linked devices as well. Contacts saved in WhatsApp will be under a new privacy storage technology called Identity Proof Linked Storage. Regarding this, Meta says that it keeps the name and number encrypted and only the user can access it. That means privacy will remain.
what else is new?
After the new contacts feature, a new username system will come in WhatsApp, in which the phone number will not be required. Other end-to-end encrypted messaging apps like Signal have also added a phone number-free option to use the app.
