This new feature is going to be very useful in those situations when users are unable to hear the voice notes i.e. where it is difficult to understand the conversation in noisy places or when it is not possible to listen to long audio messages. This feature will allow users to easily read audio messages by converting them into text.
The most important thing about this feature of WhatsApp is that this feature takes full care of the user’s privacy. No content for voice message transcription may be shared with WhatsApp or any third party. The company has also started releasing the voice message transcription feature. This process can be done directly on the user’s device after downloading the message. This feature allows users to read the content of a voice message instead of listening to its audio. This feature uses end-to-end encryption. After enabling this feature, users will also see the transcription of the voice messages coming to them.
According to WhatsApp, the new voice message transcription feature is rolling out to iOS and Android users around the world in the next few weeks. Initially this feature was supporting only some languages. But now the voice transcription feature will initially be available only in English, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian languages. However, the option to transcribe Hindi voice messages into text is already available in the beta version of the app. WhatsApp will make this feature for other languages also in the coming months. First of all, open WhatsApp Settings and then tap on Chats.
After this, scroll down and toggle on Voice Message Transcripts.
As soon as you tap it, many languages will appear here, after which select your preferred language.
You can download the required language package to enable this feature. Then tap on Set Up Now and let the process complete.
After enabling this feature, long press and hold on the voice message which you want to convert into text and click on ‘Transcribe’.
