Senior Karnataka Congress leader Siddaramaiah has made a big announcement on Friday. Siddaramaiah said the 2023 assembly elections would be his last. However, made it clear that he would continue in politics but would not contest elections. He said that it is not yet decided from which constituency he will contest the next assembly elections.
Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah further said that he will abide by the decision the party takes for the chief ministerial face in the assembly elections. Speaking to the media in his native village Siddaramahundi on Friday, Siddaramaiah said, “I will be in politics, but for electoral politics, there is a high probability that the next assembly election will be the last one that I will contest.”
On the question of contesting from which assembly elections, he said that it is only one year, no decision has been taken in this regard yet. He said that party workers and well-wishers of Varuna, Hunsur, Chamarajpet, Badami, Kolar, Hebbal, Koppal and Chamundeshwari are asking me to contest from their constituencies. I am yet to decide where to contest the election.
There has been speculation within the party for some time that the former chief minister, who currently represents the Badami seat in northern Karnataka, may return to the old Mysore region or to his home constituency of Bengaluru, for the next assembly elections. Chamarajpet MLA Jamir Ahmed Khan, considered a Siddaramaiah loyalist, has also offered to vacate his constituency for the leader of the Congress Legislature Party.
